Hey everyone! I wanted to share a fun DIY project I worked on this weekend. I’ve been really into smart lighting lately, and after seeing some amazing setups online, I decided to give it a try myself. I’ve got a small living room, and I thought it would be a great space to start experimenting with different lighting configurations and smart controls. 
First off, I’ve been using Govee lights for a while now, and they’ve been a fantastic addition to my setup. The app integration is smooth, and the color options are endless. But I wanted to take it a step further—why not create a custom lighting scene that changes based on my mood or the time of day? That’s where the idea for a DIY smart lighting system came in. 
I decided to go with a combination of Govee LED strips and some smart plugs to control everything from my phone. The goal was to have a system that could automatically adjust the lighting based on whether it’s day or night, or even when I’m entertaining guests. I’ve read some great guides online about setting up similar systems, so I used those as a starting point. 
One thing I was particularly excited about was integrating my Google Home with the lighting setup. I’ve heard so much about how seamless the integration can be, and I wanted to experience it firsthand. After a bit of trial and error, I managed to set up voice controls so I can now say, “Hey Google, turn on the party lights!” and watch as the room transforms into a vibrant, colorful space. 
Of course, there were a few hiccups along the way. Initially, I struggled with getting the smart plugs to consistently connect to my Wi-Fi. It turned out to be a simple fix—just resetting the router and the plugs did the trick. It’s amazing how sometimes the simplest solutions are the most effective! 
Another challenge was figuring out the best way to mount the LED strips. I didn’t want them to look too bulky or out of place, so I did some research and found some clever mounting solutions that blend in nicely with the room’s decor. I ended up using some adhesive strips that were both easy to install and nearly invisible once everything was set up. 
Now that everything is up and running, I’m absolutely thrilled with how it turned out. The room feels so much more dynamic and welcoming, and it’s been a joy to experiment with different lighting scenarios. I’ve even started creating some custom routines using my Google Home, like a relaxing evening mode that dims the lights and plays some soothing music. 
This project has been a fantastic way to dive deeper into the world of smart home automation. It’s not just about the technology—it’s about how it can enhance our daily lives and make even the simplest moments a bit more special.
