I wanted to share a fun and practical solution I’ve developed for managing my lively kitten’s nighttime antics. For those who share their homes with curious felines, you’ll know how challenging it can be to balance their needs with a good night’s sleep. My kitten, like many, has an uncanny ability to demand attention at the most inconvenient times—especially in the middle of the night.
After some research and experimentation, I found a clever way to keep both of us happy. I combined an Imou camera with a Litter Robot automatic feeder to create an automated feeding system. Here’s how it works:
- Camera Setup: I positioned the camera near the feeder and set up a zone alarm feature. This allows me to define a specific area around the feeder that triggers alerts when my kitten approaches.
- Automation: When the camera detects my kitten lingering in the designated area for more than 10 seconds, it sends an alert to Home Assistant. This, in turn, triggers the feeder to dispense a portion of food.
- Benefits: This setup ensures my kitten always has fresh food available, eliminating the need for late-night feedings. It also reduces the mess and waste associated with leaving food out all day.
While this solution was tailored for my specific setup, I believe the concept can be adapted to various devices and configurations. If you’re dealing with a nocturnal feline companion, I’d love to hear your thoughts or any improvements you might suggest! ![]()
