Hey everyone, I wanted to share a fun project I’ve been working on to automate my morning routine using Home Assistant. I’ve always been a bit of a morning person, but with the help of some smart devices, I’ve taken it to the next level!
The Goal:
I wanted to create a seamless morning experience that starts as soon as I wake up. My ideal morning includes waking up to a gradual sunrise effect, having my coffee ready by the time I get downstairs, and making sure all my devices are prepped for the day.
The Setup:
- ** Philips Hue LED strips for bedroom lighting
- A smart coffee maker
- A Sonos speaker for music
- A smart thermostat
**The Automation:**Here’s how I made it happen:
- Sunrise Simulation: I set up a scene that slowly brightens my bedroom lights over 30 minutes. This gentle wake-up call has made mornings much easier.
- Coffee Time: I created a custom automation that triggers when I turn off my bedroom light. This sends a command to my smart coffee maker to start brewing.
- Morning Music: As I head downstairs, the music starts playing on my Sonos speaker. I’ve set it to play a curated playlist that’s upbeat but not too overwhelming.
- Thermostat Adjustment: The thermostat automatically adjusts to a comfortable temperature, so I don’t have to fiddle with it first thing.
The Result:
This setup has completely transformed my mornings. I’m more relaxed and ready to tackle the day. Plus, it’s been a great way to experiment with different automations and scenes in Home Assistant.
Tips for Others:- Start small. Maybe just automate your coffee maker or lights first.
- Use scenes to group related actions together.
- Don’t be afraid to tweak and adjust your settings over time.
I’d love to hear how others have automated their mornings or any tips you might have! ![]()
