Hey everyone! I wanted to share a little trick I stumbled upon recently while working on my smart home setup. It’s been a blast getting everything up and running, and I thought I’d pass this along in case anyone else finds it helpful.
So, I’ve been trying to add a few more Xiaomi Aqara sensors to my system. I’ve got a mix of temperature sensors, window sensors, and even a smoke detector. The process of adding them initially seemed a bit daunting, especially without the app. But here’s the thing—I discovered a quick workaround that made the whole process a breeze!
Here’s what I did: I pressed the button on my Aqara hub three quick times. You’ll hear a little message in Chinese, which I guess is some sort of confirmation. Then, I pressed the small button on the sensor itself. Success! Another Chinese message popped up, this one starting with “Bei…” and I knew it was connected. I restarted my Home Assistant, and voilà, they were all recognized and ready to go!
It’s been a real lifesaver, especially when I couldn’t get the app to cooperate for some reason. I’ve tested this method with a few different sensors, and it’s worked every time. I’m still trying to figure out what those Chinese messages mean, but I’m guessing one is a success message and the other is a failure. If anyone here speaks Chinese, I’d love to know for sure!
This little trick has been a game-changer for me, and I hope it helps someone else out there. It’s all about those small victories that make the whole smart home journey so rewarding. If you’ve got any tips or tricks of your own, I’d love to hear them!
Happy tinkering, everyone! ![]()
