A simple latency matrix for comparing Aqara, Matter, and Apple Home paths

With Aqara devices spread across M3, M100, and M200 and exposed to Apple Home, I’ve found that ‘it feels slow’ is too vague to troubleshoot. A small latency matrix makes it easier to identify which layer changed.

Using one noncritical on/off device, I run the same test five times after 30 seconds of idle:

  • Aqara Home → device
  • Apple Home → Aqara Matter/HomeKit bridge → device
  • A simple automation executed locally by the Aqara hub

I record median and worst-case latency, plus the hub, controller, firmware, and integration path. If all three paths are slow, I look at the device, mesh, or hub. If only Apple Home is slow, I focus on the controller/bridge path. If manual control is fast but the automation is slow, I inspect trigger conditions and simultaneous actions.

I avoid locks and safety-critical devices and change nothing between runs. Does anyone else track both median and worst-case latency, and what delay do you treat as a real failure rather than normal variation?
