A Smooth Integration Journey with Philips Hue and SmartThings

As I delved into the world of smart lighting, I found myself on a quest to seamlessly integrate my Philips Hue scenes with both SmartThings and the Amazon Echo. At first glance, it seemed like a straightforward task, but as I soon discovered, the path wasn’t without its bumps.

The Challenge: My goal was to have the Echo control my Hue scenes with the same reliability and speed I’ve come to expect from my smart home setup. However, I encountered two major hurdles. First, the lag and unreliability when switching between scenes, especially with 40+ bulbs each having unique settings. Second, the lack of an elegant solution to control both ‘On’ and ‘Off’ states for each scene through voice commands.

The Solution: After exploring various options and seeking advice from the community, I stumbled upon Hue (Re)Connect. This app proved to be the missing puzzle piece, allowing me to transition between scenes flawlessly. Beyond that, I discovered a stateless switch device type created by @Sticks18, which enabled me to have both ‘On’ and ‘Off’ commands for each scene without worrying about the device state.

The Outcome: The result is a beautifully functioning system that’s both fast and reliable. Whether I’m turning on the ambient lights or switching off the bedroom scene, everything happens seamlessly. It’s incredibly satisfying to have a setup that works effortlessly, and I’m grateful to the community for the invaluable guidance and resources.

If anyone else is navigating similar challenges, I hope my journey provides some clarity and inspiration. Happy smart home tweaking everyone! :star2:
