A Smooth Migration Journey: C7 to C8PRO

After spending considerable time researching and planning, I decided to migrate my system from C7 to C8PRO. The process wasn’t without its challenges, but the outcome has been nothing short of impressive. I followed the official migration guide meticulously, and while everything seemed to go smoothly at first, there were a few hiccups along the way that I wanted to share, in case others encounter similar issues.

One of the first things I noticed post-migration was an issue with my IP-related integrations, such as Grafana and InfluxDB logger. Initially, I thought there might be a problem with the migration itself, but after some troubleshooting, I realized that the issue stemmed from MAC address filtering on my IoT zone firewalls. It turned out that the firewall was set to only allow connections from the C7 MAC address, which meant that the C8PRO was being blocked. Once I updated the firewall settings to include the C8PRO’s MAC address, everything started working again.

Another significant improvement I noticed was the dramatic enhancement in my Z-Wave mesh network. Prior to the migration, the mesh map looked like a tangled mess, with numerous connections and routes. Post-migration, the mesh map transformed into a clean, spoke-and-wheel configuration, with every device now having a direct route to the hub. This change has not only improved the reliability of my system but has also made it much easier to manage and troubleshoot.

Throughout this process, I’ve learned the importance of thorough preparation and meticulous attention to detail. It’s also been a great reminder of how a small oversight, like MAC address filtering, can cause significant issues. I’m now more confident in my ability to handle such migrations in the future and am excited to explore all the new features that C8PRO has to offer.

If anyone else is planning a migration or has encountered similar issues, I’d be happy to share more details or offer advice. Happy automating!
