I recently embarked on expanding my Zigbee network to cover my entire home, and I wanted to share my experience in case it helps others facing similar challenges. Our house has thick concrete walls, which I knew would be a hurdle for wireless signals. I started with a Raspberry Pi 4 and a Sky Connect stick, which has been a game-changer compared to my previous setup.
Initially, I focused on setting up wall plugs as hubs to create a robust network. This worked well in the lower floor, but the upper floor posed a significant challenge. The connection was unstable, and devices would frequently drop out. After some research, I discovered that adding more wall plugs strategically around the upper floor significantly improved the network’s reliability.
I also learned the importance of testing each device individually before expanding the network. This helped me identify weak points early on. Now, my Zigbee devices are consistently connected, and the network performs smoothly across both floors.
For anyone tackling a similar project, I recommend starting small, testing each component, and gradually expanding. Patience and persistence are key! ![]()
