Hey everyone, I’m reaching out today with a couple of questions regarding my smart home setup. First, I wanted to share my experience with the APC UPS units we’ve been using at our distillery sites. While they’ve been reliable for power backup, we’ve encountered constant alerts for input voltage and frequency issues. Despite our electricians confirming that everything is within acceptable ranges, these alerts have become overwhelming, even leading to our email provider flagging us for potential DOS attacks. We’ve had to disable email alerts and reroute them to a log server, but the noise from these alerts is making it hard to monitor genuine issues. My main question is: is there a way to adjust the voltage and frequency thresholds on the UPS to reduce these alerts? I’ve tried tweaking the power settings without success, so any insights would be appreciated!
On a lighter note, I also wanted to share something I’ve been working on with virtual presence sensors. Like many of you, I’ve created these virtual switches to simulate presence, and they’ve been working beautifully. However, I’d love to customize the display text to show ‘Home’ or ‘Away’ instead of the default ‘on’ or ‘off’. I’ve tinkered with the Device Handler code, but the changes aren’t reflecting in the app. If anyone has successfully done this or knows how to achieve it, I’d be thrilled to hear your tips!
I’m really enjoying the community here and the wealth of knowledge shared. Hoping to get some advice to tackle these issues and maybe learn a thing or two along the way. Thanks in advance for your help!
