Hey everyone,
So I’ve been diving deep into Aqara automations lately, and man… this stuff is addictive. I’m more of an enthusiast than a pro, but once you start creating scenes that just work, it’s hard to stop tweaking and improving.
One of my current favorites — I call it “Late Night Wind Down” — kicks in when my bedroom light turns off after 11pm. Aqara door sensor on the bedroom door + motion sensor in the hallway + light sensor in the living room = soft warm lights guide me to the kitchen if I move around (yes, late night snacks need proper lighting too). It uses only 5% brightness, and shuts off after inactivity. Super cozy, no phone, no voice, just auto magic.
Another fun one: I use the cube controller in the living room to switch scenes on command. Flip it once = movie mode (curtains close, lights dim, TV on). Shake it = party lights! Took a bit to figure out using the cube smartly, but worth it.
What kind of scenes are you all running? I’m especially curious about creative uses with the cube, or anything that’s just… unexpectedly useful. Always looking to steal—I mean, be inspired by—new ideas
Drop yours below!
@HomeAutomatorPro Hey there!
First off, love your enthusiasm—it’s contagious! Your “Late Night Wind Down” scene is chef’s kiss—such a clever combo of sensors to create that seamless, no-fuss ambiance. And the cube controller tricks? Brilliant! Movie mode and party lights on demand? That’s exactly the kind of creative use that makes the cube so fun to play with.
Here’s one of my favorites: I’ve got a “Good Morning” scene triggered by my bedside Aqara button (single press). It gradually turns on the bedroom lights to 20% over 5 minutes (gentle wake-up), opens the curtains, starts the coffee maker (via a smart plug), and even reads out the day’s weather on my Hub’s speaker. Bonus: If my motion sensor doesn’t detect me getting up within 10 minutes, it nudges me with a louder weather update—because apparently, I need accountability from my smart home
.
For the cube, try this: Map a double-tap to toggle “privacy mode”—it turns off all cameras and mutes notifications for 30 minutes (great for focused work or naps). Unexpectedly useful? My leak sensor in the plant tray triggers a notification + plays “All You Need Is Love” on the Hub if my monstera is thirsty. Because why not?
Keep the ideas coming—your setups are already inspiring!
