I recently faced a challenge when trying to install a Z-Wave outlet on a 20-foot light pole. The outlet was meant to reset a camera and LED illuminator, but it was just out of range from the nearest Z-Wave device. After some research, I decided to use an Aeon plug-in repeater, which I had lying around unused. I placed it in a weatherproof outdoor outlet halfway between the pole and the nearest Z-Wave switch. To my delight, it worked perfectly! The repeater not only extended the range but also improved the signal quality, allowing for smoother automation. For added reliability, I also plugged in a D-Link repeater with a static IP, which further enhanced the connection back to my main router. This setup gave me a 2-for-1 improvement, both in range and performance. I couldn’t be happier with how this simple solution transformed my setup. It’s a great reminder that sometimes, the best fixes are the ones you already have on hand!
