Aeotec Heavy-Duty Switch for Ceramic Cooktop Monitoring

Hello everyone, I’m excited to share my recent project and seek your advice on a challenge I’ve encountered. I recently purchased an Aeotec heavy-duty switch, rated up to 40A, with the goal of monitoring the electricity usage of my ceramic cooktop. This cooktop is connected to a double group in my meterkast, and while I can measure the electricity use for almost every other device in my home, this one has been elusive.

The cooktop is connected using a perilex plug (2x L, 2x N, 1x GND). Before purchasing the switch, I checked the Aeotec website and saw images suggesting it had 2 L connectors. However, upon receiving the switch, I discovered the EU version only has one L connector. This has presented a bit of a puzzle for me.

My initial plan was to use an extra plug and connector to avoid modifying the existing wall plug or the cooktop cord, essentially creating an extension cord with the Aeotec switch in the middle. I have some parts in mind, but I’m unsure if connecting the two L and N wires to the same terminal would work or if I should consider returning the switch and looking for another solution.

I understand that measuring the power consumption of my cooktop won’t save much money, but I’m curious and want to complete my dashboard. Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’m eager to hear your thoughts and experiences with similar setups.
