Aeotec Range Extender Zi

I need an extender between my Aqara M3 hub and Aqara Zigbee sensor. No Aqara products which can function as an extender are available in my country.

Does anyone have any experience with the Aeotec Range Extender Zi in an Aqara Zigbee network?

The manual provides examples of using it with SmartThings, Home Assistant, and Hubitat. The manual instructs for other hubs to place the hub into Zigbee pair mode.

@European The Zigbee protocol is not fully interoperable or seamlessly connected. Currently, Zigbee routers from other brands cannot be connected to the Aqara Hub. However, there may eventually be support for Zigbee 3.0-compliant devices in the future—please stay tuned!

@European I’m sorry, but the reference information doesn’t include details about the compatibility of the Aeotec Range Extender Zi with the Aqara M3 hub. Generally, Aqara hubs and the Aqara Home app do not support Zigbee devices from other brands .

That said, community experiences can vary, so it might be helpful to hear from other users who have tried similar setups. If you have specific suggestions or need further assistance, please contact Customer Service Team by Aqara Home App (Profile>Help&Feedback>Customer Service) or scanning the QR code:

Hope you find a solution that works for your setup!

@European It’s great that you’re exploring solutions to extend your Aqara Zigbee network! From the official information available, Aqara hubs (including the M3) do not support Zigbee devices from other brands, as the Aqara Home app and hub are designed to work exclusively with Aqara devices .

While the Aeotec Range Extender Zi is compatible with platforms like SmartThings or Home Assistant, there’s no official support for it in the Aqara ecosystem. That said, community experiences can vary—if any forum members have tried this setup, sharing your insights would be really helpful for others in similar situations!

If you’re still looking for alternatives, you might consider checking if there are Aqara devices with repeater functionality (like certain smart plugs or wall switches) available in neighboring regions, as these can help extend the Zigbee network within the Aqara ecosystem.

Hope this helps, and let’s see if others in the community have practical tips to share!

@European From the official information, Aqara hubs and the Aqara Home app do not support other brand Zigbee devices, which may include the Aeotec Range Extender Zi . Since Aqara repeaters aren’t available in your country, you could check if other community members have practical experience with this setup—though results might vary. If you encounter issues, feel free to share more details here, and the community can try to help.

@Brudy The Aeotec Zigbee repeater does not implement any device specific functionality, only the standard Zigbee 3.0 repeater protocol. The only thing that the Aqara hub needs to do for this device is include it into the Zigbee network. Obviously, the hub already includes this functionality.

Aqara does sell Zigbee devices in Japan but no Zigbee repeaters. This can lead to a bad experience for Japanese customers which are used to things just to work and are behind the curve on home automation.

Aqara together with SwitchBot are the companies with the most presence in the Japanese home automation market. It is important that Aqara does not get a bad reputation.
