Aeotec Siren 6 Installation and Troubleshooting Tips

Hey everyone, I just wanted to share my experience with installing the Aeotec Siren 6. I was really excited to get it up and running, but unfortunately, I ran into some issues that I thought I’d document in case others are facing the same problem.

First off, the installation process itself was smooth. I followed the instructions, set up the necessary flows, and everything seemed to be in order. But when I tried to test the siren, I was met with an error message: ‘device not available.’ To make things even more frustrating, the siren now shows a red triangle with an exclamation mark in the device list.

I tried a few troubleshooting steps, like long-clicking the siren to see if it would reset or provide more information. The message I got was ‘apparaat niet beschikbaar’ (device not available) along with ‘device.setUnavailable is not a function.’ At this point, I was a bit stuck, but I decided to dig deeper.

After some research, I found that others have had similar issues, especially with firmware versions. My Homey Pro was running on version 7.1.3, and it seemed like there might be a compatibility issue. I reached out to the community and got some great advice. Someone suggested checking if there were any pending firmware updates for both the siren and the Homey itself.

I decided to update the Homey firmware first, thinking that might resolve the issue. The update went smoothly, and I was hopeful that the siren would start working. Unfortunately, the problem persisted. I then looked into the siren’s firmware and found that there was an update available. I followed the instructions to update it, and voilà! The siren started working perfectly.

This experience taught me the importance of keeping both the hub and devices up to date. It also reminded me that sometimes, the solution is just a firmware update away. If anyone else is facing similar issues, I’d recommend checking for updates first before diving into more complex troubleshooting steps.

Overall, I’m happy to have resolved the issue and have my siren functioning as it should. It’s a great addition to my smart home setup, and I’m looking forward to using it for various alerts and notifications. Thanks to everyone in the community for their support and advice!
