I’ve been exploring the capabilities of AI in home automation, and I must say, the results have been truly impressive! A couple of months ago, I set up some initial automations using AI tasks to analyze still images captured by my cameras. The integration with Gemini has been a game-changer, allowing me to automate tasks like monitoring propane tank levels and detecting packages on my front porch.
Recently, I’ve taken it a step further by implementing a system that checks if my trash bins are out the night before collection. Gemini gently reminds me via notification if I’ve forgotten. It’s incredibly convenient and has saved me from missing collection days multiple times.
Another fascinating project I’ve worked on is monitoring vehicles entering our driveway while we’re away. Gemini not only detects the make and model of the vehicle but also reads the license plate and checks for any business or government markings. This feature has been particularly useful for identifying service vehicles, which has been invaluable for our landscaping projects.
I’m currently brainstorming a few more ideas, including one that involves monitoring multiple cats using a litter box. The goal is to count how many times each cat uses the box individually, which could be incredibly helpful for households with cats that have occasional urinary issues.
If anyone has similar projects or creative ideas they’d like to share, I’d love to hear about them! The possibilities with AI in home automation are endless, and it’s exciting to see how these technologies can enhance our daily lives.
