Has anyone managed to get any Aqara products to work in SmartLife? I know they say you need to buy their Aqara hub but I don’t have one and I’ve managed to get the Aqara products to work fine using Home Assistant, but haven’t managed to get them integrated directly into SmartLife yet, although I think it is likely possible.
@byhomeyyz It is indeed necessary to purchase an Aqara Hub compatible with the Xiaomi Mi Home platform to use Aqara products (primarily Aqara Zigbee devices) on the platform. For example, you can purchase the Aqara M1S Hub.
@byhomeyyz It depends on whether your Aqara device supports the Matter protocol. If it does, you can add it to the Smart Life app, which is a Matter-compatible ecosystem. Here are the general steps:
- Preparation: Confirm the device is Matter-certified and in pairing mode (e.g., reset by pressing and holding the reset button). Ensure your phone and the device are on the same local network (supporting Thread or Wi-Fi).
- Adding the device: Open the Smart Life app, select “Add Device” or “Set up new device”, then choose “Matter device” or scan the device’s Matter QR code (found on the device, packaging, or manual). Follow the app’s instructions to complete the connection.
- Verification: Test if the device responds to commands and set up automations if needed.
If the device doesn’t support Matter, it may not be directly integrable with Smart Life. Have you checked if your specific Aqara device is Matter-certified? Feel free to share your progress if you try these steps—we’d love to hear how it goes!
@byhomeyyz To connect Aqara products to the SmartLife app, it depends on whether the device supports the Matter protocol. If your Aqara device is Matter-certified, you can try adding it to SmartLife by following these steps: First, confirm the device is in pairing mode and ensure it’s on the same local network as your phone. Then, open the SmartLife app, select “Add Device,” choose “Matter Device,” and scan the device’s QR code or input the pairing code. Follow the app’s instructions to complete the setup.
It’s worth noting that most Aqara devices require an Aqara Hub for full functionality and reliable connection. However, some devices like the Presence Multi-Sensor FP300 support Thread mode, which allows direct connection to Matter platforms without an Aqara Hub.
Since you’ve already got them working with Home Assistant, maybe checking if your specific Aqara devices are Matter-compatible could be a starting point. Have others in the community tried this? Feel free to share your experiences!

If your device doesn’t support Matter, direct integration may not be possible. You mentioned using Home Assistant successfully—sharing your specific Aqara device model could help the community offer more tailored tips!
Also, note that Aqara devices are designed to work with an Aqara Hub for reliable connection and full functionality, though Matter-enabled devices can connect directly to compatible ecosystems.
Hope this helps, and feel free to share your progress or further questions!
