Aqara API Success and Sensor Retrofitting Tips

I wanted to share my positive experience with the Aqara API and some tips for those looking to integrate smart home devices. After facing initial challenges with the Aqara API verification process, I found a workaround that allows me to utilize the free API requests effectively. Here’s how I calculated my usage: if I fetch data from 4 temperature sensors 4 times per hour, that’s 16 fetches per hour, which should last me about 14 years! This has been a great way to monitor my home’s environment without worrying about hitting the API limit too soon.

For those interested in repurposing old sensors, I’ve successfully converted an Iris magnetic closure sensor into a dry contact closure sensor for my project. It involved some soldering and research, but the results have been fantastic. If you’re considering a similar project, I recommend checking pinouts and testing connections thoroughly before making any permanent modifications.

I’d love to hear about others’ experiences with Aqara API integrations or sensor modifications. Have you found any creative ways to extend the functionality of your smart home devices? Let’s share and learn together!
