Aqara Cameras + HomeKit: Why Are We Still Waiting?

Alright, fellow HomeKit fans—let’s talk cameras.

Aqara makes some great hardware, but when it comes to HomeKit integration, especially for cameras, it feels like we’re still in beta mode. HomeKit Secure Video isn’t universal, motion zone control is limited, and some of the coolest Aqara AI features never make it over to the Home app.

Meanwhile, competitors are rolling out full HSV support, advanced detection, and tighter HomeKit automations across their entire lineup. Why not Aqara?

Here’s what I think should be top priority:
• Full HSV on every model (not just a few select cameras)
• HomeKit motion zones & person detection that actually sync
• Face recognition alerts without needing a separate Aqara app open
• Direct two-way audio in Home without lag
• Camera-triggered automations that can instantly trigger lights, sirens, or scenes

If Aqara nailed this, they could dominate the HomeKit camera market overnight.

So—what’s the killer feature missing for you? And what would make you ditch your current cameras for Aqara?

Would love to be able to control pan/tilt directly from Home rather than having to switch to Aqara app or having to have family members text me to ask me to move the camera because I’m the only one with the Aqara app.:unamused:

I believe it’s simply that by adding HomeKit support increases device marketability and sales but holding back a little in certain features ensures the user continues to use the native Aqara app for whatever reason

Maybe I’m just a cynic :no_mouth:

Hi @glider
HK is a bit limited in settings, when apple allows adding settings to HK - I think manufacturers will add them.

I understand but features like downgrading 4K for the G410 in HK is a mystery. That feels more like an Aqara limitation rather than Apple.

As far as I know, Homekit has a 1080p image limit for all cameras, so 4k cameras in HK are pointless

Exactly, all cameras in HomeKit record at 1080p. I wish they would raise the quality at some point. But that’s already Apple’s thing. The great thing would be that Apple implemented the ability to move the cameras that have motion action.

I would like all of that!

If the rumours are correct, it’s going to happen a lot the the home os, and making it easier with integrations :crossed_fingers:

Agreed. Wait too long and Apple will end up finally coming out with something that’ll make everyone go all in on and stick to permanently.

Agree, the most important one for me is the ability to control pan and tilt right in Home app. Don’t know how much longer we have to wait until that day.

Agreed.

This is true!

There haven’t been any real improvements to cameras in Home since HKSV in 2019. What was minimally sufficient then is woefully inadequate today. I get the impression that Apple has largely abandoned their proprietary HomeKit systems, in favor of Matter. Hopefully when a future Matter spec adds cameras, they’ll add things like PTZ control to Home.
