I recently had the pleasure of setting up the Aqara Curtain Controller in my home, and I must say, it’s been a fantastic addition to my smart home ecosystem. The Aqara Curtain Controller allows you to automate your curtains using Siri, the Home app, or even the Mi Home app. It’s incredibly versatile and works seamlessly with both HomeKit and Mi Home gateways. I paired mine with the Aqara HomeKit Smart Home Gateway, which opened up a world of possibilities for integration with other smart devices.
One of the standout features of this device is its ability to detect manual movements. If you gently pull the curtain to open or close it, the motor will take over and finish the task automatically. This is a small but incredibly useful feature that adds a layer of convenience to everyday tasks.
I decided to set up a Good Morning scene using the Home app. The automation is triggered at sunrise, and the curtains open to let in the morning light. It’s such a nice way to start the day without having to manually adjust the curtains. Pairing this with a motion sensor, I’ve also created a scene where the lights in my living room dim slightly when the curtains are closed, creating a cozy atmosphere in the evenings.
However, I did encounter a minor hiccup during setup. The initial firmware didn’t support HomeKit out of the box, and I had to manually update it. Thankfully, the process was straightforward, and the updated firmware worked like a charm. I’d recommend checking for firmware updates if you’re planning to integrate this device with HomeKit.
Overall, the Aqara Curtain Controller is a cost-effective and reliable solution for anyone looking to automate their curtains. It’s simple to set up, integrates well with multiple ecosystems, and offers a range of customization options. If you’re on the fence about adding smart curtains to your home, I’d say give this one a try—it’s definitely worth the investment!
