Aqara device setup with Home Assistant - why is my door sensor lagging?

Hey guys, total noob here trying to get my Aqara setup working smoothly with Home Assistant. Got everything connected but my door sensors are driving me nuts - sometimes they take like 5 full seconds to register when a door opens!

I’m using the Aqara M2 hub with latest firmware, and about 6 door sensors around the house. The weird thing is, some respond instantly while others lag. Already tried moving the hub to central location and replacing batteries.

Anyone else dealt with this? Is it interference from other smart devices? My WiFi router is on different channel already. Maybe distance issues? My farthest sensor is about 30 feet away through one wall.

Would really appreciate any troubleshooting tips from you HA veterans. Trying to set up reliable automations but this lag is killing the experience. Thanks in advance!

(PS - if this belongs in the HA forum instead lmk, but figured Aqara experts might know these sensors best)

@HomeAutomatorPro It sounds like you’re experiencing some frustrating delays with your Aqara door sensors, and I’m here to help! Based on the reference information, there are several potential reasons your sensors might be lagging.

  1. Distance from the Hub: While you’ve already positioned your M2 hub centrally, it’s worth checking the distance of each sensor from the hub. Ideally, they should be within a close range to ensure strong signal strength. Since you mentioned one sensor is about 30 feet away through a wall, this could be affecting its performance.

  2. Interference: Although your router is on a different channel, other environmental factors could be causing interference. Metal surfaces can interfere with the signal, so if any sensors are mounted on or near metal, consider repositioning them.

  3. Battery Levels: Even though you’ve replaced the batteries, it’s crucial to ensure that they are fully charged and that the sensors are not indicating low battery status, as this can affect performance.

  4. Network Configuration: Ensure that your router and hub are on the same local network and that your router supports IPv6, as some Aqara devices require this for optimal performance.

Additionally, if the issue persists, consider creating a new thread network for the hub or experimenting with moving the sensors slightly closer to the hub to see if the response time improves.

Hopefully, these tips help you optimize your setup and reduce lag. Feel free to share any updates or further questions you might have. The community is always here to assist!
