Hi Aqara Team,
First of all, I want to say that I’ve fully committed my smart home to the Aqara ecosystem. I currently have over 50 Aqara devices installed throughout my house, including hubs, switches, sensors and panels. Overall, the experience has been excellent, and the ecosystem is one of the most complete on the market.
However, there is one limitation that is significantly affecting my setup.
I previously used Onvis door/window sensors, and within HomeKit these sensors expose an Alarm/Security mode. This makes it possible for HomeKit to treat them as part of the home security system: when the house is set to Away or Night mode, and a sensor is triggered, HomeKit can immediately activate an alarm, send notifications, automate actions, etc.
After migrating fully to Aqara, I noticed that Aqara Door and Window Sensors do not expose this alarm capability in HomeKit, which means HomeKit cannot treat them as security devices in the same way. As a result, when I arm my system through the Aqara Panel S1 or the M3 hub (Away or Night mode), the door sensors cannot trigger an alarm natively through HomeKit.
Given how complete Aqara’s ecosystem is - especially with the new M3 hub and its focus on whole-home control - it feels like this feature is missing and would be extremely valuable.
My question / suggestion:
Is it technically possible for Aqara to enable HomeKit security classification (e.g., “Contact Sensor with Alarm” or similar) for Aqara door/window sensors in a future firmware update?
If Onvis can expose an alarm capability to HomeKit, I imagine this might also be achievable for Aqara with a software or firmware adjustment.
This improvement would allow users like me to:
• Arm the home (Away / Night) from an Aqara panel or the Home app
• Have Aqara sensors trigger alarms instantly when opened
• Use the sensors as part of a complete HomeKit security system
• Avoid relying on workarounds, third-party apps or extra hubs
It would make the experience far more consistent and eliminate the need to mix brands.
Thank you for considering this suggestion. Aqara products are fantastic, and I hope this enhancement can be evaluated for future updates.
