I have the aqara doorbell working on batteries and connected to AppleHome. Very nice product working great. However, due to using batteries, I don’t have the camera enabled to conserve energy. Hence I would like to connect it to electricity.
I have a lamp next to it, and I can wire it but I am not sure what extra equipment I need, and whether this can be connected outside the house or inside it.
Can someone provide any advice?
@gstylianou To connect your Aqara doorbell to electricity instead of using batteries, you’ll be pleased to know that the Smart Video Doorbell G4 supports both battery and wired power options. According to the reference information, you can use an external power supply with specifications of 12V-24V AC or 8V-24V DC. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you:
-
Check the Power Source: Since you have a lamp nearby, you can potentially use its power source. However, ensure that the voltage and current meet the doorbell’s requirements (12V-24V AC or 8V-24V DC).
-
Wiring Setup: You may need to connect the doorbell to a transformer or power adapter that meets the specified voltage and current. This setup can typically be done inside your house for protection against weather conditions.
-
Professional Installation: Given that dealing with electricity can be complex and hazardous, it’s advisable to consult or hire a professional electrician to ensure a safe installation.
-
Indoor vs. Outdoor: The doorbell is recommended to be installed in shaded areas, like a porch, to protect it from direct weather exposure. Ensure that the power connection is also sheltered to avoid moisture or damage.
By switching to a wired setup, you’ll be able to keep the camera enabled without worrying about battery conservation, enhancing your overall smart home experience. If you have further questions or need detailed guidance, feel free to discuss with the community or reach out to a professional installer.
@gstylianou It’s great to hear your Aqara doorbell is working well with Apple Home! For connecting it to electricity, the Smart Video Doorbell G4 (which supports both battery and wired power) is a likely fit here, as it’s designed for such flexibility .
Regarding extra equipment, the reference info notes that Aqara cameras generally use power adapters like 100~240V 50/60Hz DC5V/1A or similar, though specific models may vary . For the doorbell, you might need a compatible DC power adapter (check the product manual for exact specs). As for wiring location, it can likely be installed either inside or outside, but ensure the wiring is protected from the elements if placed outdoors.
Since the reference info doesn’t cover every detail, your specific setup might require additional considerations—feel free to share more about your doorbell model, and the community can chime in with their experiences!
If you need further clarification, checking the installation guide (like the one for G4 which outlines power supply modes) could help . Happy to hear how it goes once you set it up!
