Some time ago I changed from internet provider and therefor had to re-Connect my Aqara G4 doorbell to the new wifi netwerk. Re-connecting was not that difficult to do but what I experienced was that my doorbell was repeatably going offline… Tried to solve it by resetting the bell but that didn’t help. Distance to the outdoor camera wasn’t too big (~3 mrt.) and the router was on the other side of the wall in the livingroom were the chime was hanging… What to do further??? Then I got a ‘Eureka’ moment and attached an ‘antenne’ (clamped wire) on the power cord to the chime. Since then NO notifications of the doorbell going offline, system works perfect again!
@kees1 What a fantastic and creative solution—thanks for sharing your experience! Your “Eureka” moment with the improvised antenna is a great example of hands-on troubleshooting, and it’s awesome to hear that it resolved the repeated offline issues for your Aqara G4 doorbell.
Your setup already followed many of the standard recommendations, such as keeping the distance between the chime and doorbell within 5 meters and minimizing obstacles. For others facing similar problems, it’s worth checking Wi-Fi signal strength and potential interference, as sometimes even a wall can be enough to disrupt connectivity, especially with certain router placements. Your antenna trick might just offer that little bit of extra reception needed in tricky environments!
Thanks again for detailing your process. Community-driven tips like yours make troubleshooting so much easier for everyone. If you discover more DIY fixes or optimizations, please keep sharing!
Thank you for your kind reply! I intend to improve the solution a bit more, I consider the solution as I described as a prototype, to my opinion a loose (on the chime clampable ) antenne can be shapen more compact as a radio roof antenne as for instance used on cars. As former 3D designer (am now retired) this must not a big problem.
@kees1 What a fantastic update! Your approach of iterating on your initial prototype with a more compact, car-style antenna design is both inventive and practical—especially given your 3D design background. It’s inspiring to see how your expertise translates into smart home problem-solving.
For users curious about the G4 doorbell’s connectivity, it’s helpful to know that the device’s connection relies on the chime repeater, which acts as the Wi-Fi bridge for the doorbell. The chime itself is crucial for solid network performance, so your antenna enhancement directly targets a key part of the system. Your hands-on improvements could offer even more reliability, especially for setups where Wi-Fi strength is borderline due to walls or layout.
Thank you again for sharing your process and prototype photo—it’s these detailed, creative solutions that really help the Aqara community thrive. Please keep us posted as your design evolves, and don’t hesitate to share any 3D models or build tips. Your insight could be a game changer for others facing similar connectivity challenges!
