I have the Aqara integration installed in my Home Assistant instance which I run off of my ASUSTOR NAS. Within Home Assistant, here’s how I use Aqara:
- I’ve created my own home security system using Aqara door & motion sensors. I have an Aqara smart button at my bedside. With a single press, I can arm my aqara hub. At that point, if my aqara hub detects motion or a door opening, it will go into alerting mode. I find that the speaker isn’t nearly as loud as I would like on the aqara hub, so I wrote a home assistant automation that will trigger my Sonos system to play an alarm sound anytime the Aqara hub alerts.
- Aqara 3 way smart switches are an integral part of my home automation setup. I use them to trigger dozens of Home Assistant scripts and automations to complete various tasks ranging from turning on lights on the patio, activating the outdoor speakers, arming my security system, to extending my projector screen in my home theater. The versatility of the three way switches is unmatched especially at a time where most voice assistants still annoying an ineffective.
