Aqara Hub M2: What else can I do with it?

I recently bought an M2 hub to extend my Aqara connectivity. My current hubs are my 2 outdoor cameras and, by the very nature of them being outside, aren’t great for connecting something in the middle of the house - hence the M2!

So, apart from being a hub for my Aqara device, I was wondering what else I can do with it? It’s my home office, so the IR won’t serve any purpose.

Hello, welcome to the forum. The M2 gateway is a very reliable device for a smart home. You can use it for all automations, security alarms. The internal speaker can serve as a doorbell (there must be a wireless button) so it can be a siren for security. I have been using this gateway since 2021.
I forgot to add, I recommend installing the gateway in conjunction with a mini UPS (5volt or PoE)

Thank you.

I already have an Aqara doorbell. Will the gateway act as a doorbell “out of the box”, or do I need to configure it in some way?

Not sure what you’re trying to achieve or your whole setup - but I have mine connected to home assistant for full integration with all of my other devices.

The M2 has built in InfraRed so depending on location you could use it to control a multitude of devices.

I use mine to control the following in my office.

Projector
Sound Bar
Fan

The M2 has built in Alarm functionality which can be used with several scenario’s along with triggers for alarm states.

That’s useful to know. It doesn’t look as if it’s exposed to Homekit, but I can use the alarm functionality via the Aqara app (much like I have to do to automate the light on my camera!)
