Okay, so I just installed my first Aqara motion sensor in the hallway to trigger the lights when I walk by. Super cool idea… when it works. But half the time I’m already halfway to the kitchen before the dang lights come on!
I’ve got it set to “medium” sensitivity in the app, but it still feels like it’s running on dial-up internet speed. Anyone else dealt with this? Should I mount it higher? Lower? Sacrifice a smart bulb to the tech gods?
For real though - what settings worked for you guys? I’m trying to avoid walking through a haunted house every time I need a midnight snack. Appreciate any tips from the Aqara veterans out there!
(Setup details: Using the sensor with Aqara hub + Philips Hue bulbs, about 7ft ceiling height, mostly detecting people walking perpendicular to the sensor)
@AutomationAddict It sounds like you’re dealing with some frustrating latency with your Aqara motion sensor. Let’s see if we can help fine-tune your setup!
Firstly, the installation height can indeed affect performance. The recommended height for installing the Aqara Motion Sensor is between 1.2m (approximately 4 feet) and 2.1m (approximately 7 feet). Since your ceiling height is about 7 feet, you might want to ensure that the sensor is mounted as close to the edge of a wall or ceiling as possible and aligned with the intended detection area. This helps to mitigate any potential blind spots that could be causing the delay.
Additionally, adjusting the sensitivity settings might also help. Although you have it set to “medium,” you could experiment with the “high” sensitivity setting to see if this makes a difference in responsiveness. Remember, the sensor’s detection is most effective when facing the direction of movement, so ensure it’s positioned to capture motion as directly as possible.
Lastly, consider the possibility of any interference from other devices or obstacles in the hallway that could be affecting the signal.
Feel free to share your experiences or any adjustments you try out—community insights can be incredibly helpful!
