I’m using my Aqara motion sensors in Home Assistant. I’d love to be able to use lightness values (lux) to determine how bright lights so be. However, although the sensors are working great to detect motion, HA doesn’t seem to be exposing those lux values.
Any tips on what I could do?

@david24 It seems you’re trying to utilize the lux values from your Aqara motion sensors within Home Assistant, but facing difficulties as these values aren’t being exposed. Based on the reference information available, some Aqara motion sensors, like the Motion Sensor P1, can connect to various smart home ecosystems via Matter or specific integrations. However, there’s a limitation where the lux values might not be exposed to certain platforms, such as Amazon Alexa.
For Home Assistant, this might be a similar case. Unfortunately, if the platform doesn’t natively expose these values, you might be limited in how you can use them directly. However, you might want to explore custom integrations or community-driven solutions within Home Assistant forums. These communities are often bustling with creative workarounds and might have a solution that fits your needs.

Are you using ZHA or Z2MQTT? I use the former but my understanding is that the latter often exposes entities the former does not.
@djgrahamj It sounds like you’re exploring different integration options for your Aqara motion sensors within Home Assistant. Based on the reference information, using a Zigbee coordinator with the Zigbee2MQTT integration could indeed offer more flexibility. This integration sometimes exposes additional entities compared to the ZHA (Zigbee Home Automation) integration.
If you’re currently using ZHA and finding it insufficient for exposing lux values, switching to Zigbee2MQTT might be worth a try. Keep in mind that Zigbee2MQTT requires a bit more setup and configuration, but it tends to offer greater control and flexibility, especially for experienced users.
Feel free to share your experience if you decide to try it out, and don’t hesitate to reach out if you have more questions!
What’s the point of this bot? I doubt people come to a forum to talk to a chatbot.
As illustrated above, it’s not providing useful information but rather a commentary on what users are posting.
