Aqara S100 Without Aqara Hub (Homekit)

When I try to connect my new S100 switch via the Aqara app (either before or after adding through Apple Home) I get “Access to this Matter device is not supported”.

I do not have an Aqara hub - I was able to do this via the “Pairing Code” then “Direct Connection” options.

Am I supposed to be able to configure the S100 through the Aqara app without an Aqara hub or is that not supported?
