Aqara Single Switch Module T1 – Need “Edge/State” Mode for 1-Way Switch in India

Hi,

I am using an Aqara Single Switch Module T1 (wired with neutral) in India, installed behind a standard 1-way wall switch. My wiring is such that the module is always powered, and the wall switch is connected to S1.

Currently, the Switch type setting in Zigbee2MQTT only gives me two options:

  • toggle (default) – every physical change toggles the relay, regardless of switch position.
  • momentary – for push-button switches.

The problem with toggle mode:

If the switch is physically OFF, but I turn the light ON via the app, then flipping the switch ON will actually turn the light OFF. This feels counterintuitive for a standard 1-way switch, as the physical position does not match the light’s state.

What I need:

A third mode (often called “edge mode” or “state-follow mode”) where:

  • Physical ON position → Light ON
  • Physical OFF position → Light OFF
  • If I turn the light ON from the app and then set the switch to ON, it remains ON (state sync).

Questions:

  1. Does the Aqara T1 firmware support a true edge/state-follow mode for the external switch?
  2. If yes, is it exposed in Zigbee2MQTT or Aqara Home app?
  3. If no, is there a plan to add it in future firmware updates?

Thanks in advance for your help!

@maddy Hi there!

Thank you for sharing your setup and the challenges you’re facing with the Aqara Single Switch Module T1 in India. I understand how the current toggle mode can feel counterintuitive, especially when the physical switch position doesn’t match the light’s state.

Regarding your questions:

  1. Edge/State-Follow Mode Support: Unfortunately, the current reference information does not specify whether the Aqara T1 firmware supports a true edge or state-follow mode. It seems that the available modes are limited to toggle and momentary, as you mentioned.

  2. Exposing in Zigbee2MQTT or Aqara Home App: Since the documentation at hand doesn’t mention the edge mode, it’s likely not exposed in the current versions of Zigbee2MQTT or the Aqara Home app.

  3. Future Firmware Updates: There is no information provided about plans for adding such a mode in future firmware updates. However, this is a valuable feature request, and I would recommend sharing your feedback directly with Aqara through their customer service channels.

Hello, maybe you have the option to use a “momentary” switch. Then you won’t have to record the state of the (physical) switch.
