Thank you for your support. I’ll ask a colleague to reach out to you shortly.
Hello everyone,
My experience with the U400 so far has been a bit lackluster. Initial setup was straightforward, but I ran into issues when adding it to HomeKit. I’m honestly not sure what I did differently, but after some trial and error, it eventually worked and everything seemed fine.
Unfortunately, after a short power outage (about three brief interruptions), the U400 dropped out of HomeKit. In the Aqara app, it began showing a red indicator in the top-left corner. To try to resolve this, I unpaired the lock and performed a factory reset to start fresh, but I feel that only made things worse.
At this point, I’m unable to add the U400 back to the Aqara hub, which means I also can’t re-add it to HomeKit. To make matters worse, I’ve been locked out of the house once already—the lock reads my fingerprint, but the door does not unlock. I have made sure the bolt area is clear.
I haven’t yet had time to read through other posts to see if anyone else is experiencing similar issues. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m still a bit of a newbie when it comes to smart home setups, but I’m willing to learn. Unfortunately, I only have one day a week where I can really sit down and troubleshoot, which makes this especially frustrating.
I’m hoping someone here may have suggestions or insight into what might be going on.
That kind of reads like you have Network issues? You didn’t mention any Hubs etc but that would be a characteristic of one + Bluetooth use. What Hubs are you using? I would reset the Lock and start over like it is new rather than trying to figure out what went wrong. Long press the reset button for more than 5-seconds.
Sorry, I didn’t include in my tread. I have the Aqara hub M3. I will reset again and see if I have a different outcome. Hopefully resetting for third time will help with the hub connection issue.
Hello,
I have broken down the solution into specific sections below to help you resolve the issues you are facing.
Important Note: While you try these steps, we highly recommend sharing your experience to our technical support team at support@aqara.com. Please include your phone model, OS version, hub model, and current firmware version. This will allow our developers to analyze your specific situation if the steps below do not solve the problem.
1. How to Bind the Lock (Without an Apple Home Hub)
Please follow this specific order to bind your U400:
- Factory Reset: Press and hold the “Settings” button on the lock for 5 seconds to reset it.
- Bluetooth Binding: Open the Aqara Home app and bind the lock via Bluetooth first.
- Matter Integration: Once connected via Bluetooth, bind the U400 to your Aqara Hub (e.g., Hub M3) within the app.
- Apple Home: Finally, In Aqara Home, share the U400 to Apple Home via the integration settings.
For a detailed walkthrough, you can refer to this guide: Aqara Forum Guide
2. Connectivity Checklist (Matter & Thread)
To ensure a stable connection and prevent the lock from going offline, please verify the following:
- IPv6 is Critical: Your Wi-Fi router must have IPv6 enabled. If your router is set to IPv4 only, the lock may fail to bind or frequently go offline (this is required for Matter and Thread).
- Same Network: Ensure your phone and your Hub are connected to the exact same Wi-Fi network during binding.
- Bluetooth: Keep your phone’s Bluetooth ON during the entire setup process.
- Proximity: Stay close! Keep the lock within 5 meters (16 ft) of your hub. If there are walls in between, try to stay within 3 meters (10 ft).
3. Troubleshooting Fingerprint & Locking Issues
If the fingerprint reader isn’t working or the door isn’t locking properly:
- Recalibrate: Go to the Aqara Home app and run the Door Lock Calibration.
- Test the Bolt: After calibration, connect to the lock via Bluetooth. While indoors, long-press the “Lock” button in Aqara Home. Visually check if the deadbolt extends fully and smoothly.
- Retest Fingerprints: If the bolt works, try adding multiple different fingerprints again to see if the issue persists.
4. Apple Home Connectivity
For the best experience with Apple Home, we strongly recommend having a connected Apple Hub. Compatible hubs include:
- Apple HomePod (2nd gen) or HomePod mini
- Apple TV 4K (2nd gen or 3rd gen Wi-Fi + Ethernet) (Note: These hubs must be on the same network as the Hub M3).
Using only the Aqara Hub M3 with Apple Home: Since you currently only have the Aqara Hub M3, you can still bind the lock to Apple Home, but please be aware of the following limitations:
- Local Control Only: You can only control the lock via the Apple Home app when your phone is connected to the same Wi-Fi as the M3 Hub.
- No Remote Access: You cannot control the lock remotely (via 4G/5G or outside your home) through Apple Home.
- No Sharing: You cannot share home access with family members via the Apple Home app.
- No Remote Logs: You won’t be able to view lock activity logs in Apple Home remotely.
- Stability: You may experience potential connectivity or data sync delays.
However, you can still create and use an Apple Home Key on your own device and use the UWB (Ultra Wideband) unlock feature.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any further questions. ![]()
Hello. I’ve recently purchased your U400 smart lock and have been very happy with it. It works great. There’s one thing I noticed that could be improved upon, and that’s with the fingerprint reader. i’m unlocking it is great, but locking it could be improved. I replaced my Weiser smart fingerprint reader deadbolt lock with the U400 and one thing the Weiser locked did was when locking the door, you simply had to touch the fingerprint reader. If the lock was unlocked, it simply just locked the door. Doesn’t even have to be a recognized user, or fingerprint recorded to lock it. It is programmed that if the door is unlocked, anyone touching the fingerprint reader meant to lock the door.
I find that waking the keypad is sometimes a little slow, or doesn’t register my touch of the keypad to wake it up. One other suggestion that may alleviate the experience with the responsiveness when needing to lock the door when leaving the home: The lock is capable of sensing when the door is shut with the “immediately lock when door is closed” feature. Gyroscope sensor, I assume. Perhaps use the same sensor that senses when the door is shut, so it can wake the keypad for about 5 seconds, enough time for the person exiting to press the lock button.
I don’t enable it to lock immediately just in case the door is not completely closed and jams the lock in the door frame, and for simple quick exits to get something out of the car or something like that where I don’t need the lock to lock right away because I’ll only be a minute. Also, to prevent accidental lock outs. I have that setting set to lock the door after 10 minutes.
Outside of trying to lock the door, the lock works magnificently. My main use for unlocking the lock is using UWB and Apple home key.
Thank you for your time.
Extra batteries would be great!
This lock is awesome. So far very happy with it.
Thank you so much for all that you guys do. I can’t wait to someday try the keylock!
Will it be possible to by an extra battery pack?
Works great, I was a little on the fence but it was a good purchase
Dear User,
Thank you for your questions. Please see our responses below:
• Touch-to-lock on the exterior panel
We have plans to refine the related locking methods in Q2. Please refer to the official firmware release notes for more information.
• Detecting when you leave and providing a locking option
Currently, if the Auto-Lock on Close feature is disabled, the keypad will illuminate the lock button for 3 seconds after the door is closed. You can simply tap the button during this time to lock the door manually.
• Locking options for quick trips (e.g., taking out the trash or going to the garage)
For short outings, you can extend the Auto-Lock on Close timer to better cover these scenarios, which you have mentioned above. Available options range from Immediately up to 10 minutes .
Alternatively, you can enable an Automatic Lock in the Apple Home app. This allows you to remain outside or in the garage for a longer period while keeping the door unlocked. The timer starts as soon as the door is unlocked and will automatically lock the door once the set time expires (for example, after 10 minutes). Available options range from 30 seconds up to 30 minutes .
Please note that this Apple Home feature does not detect door status—the latch will engage regardless of whether the door is open or closed. However, it can still be a suitable option if you plan to keep the door closed but unlocked for an extended period.
If you have any further questions, feel free to let us know.
It would be great if it came with a second battery or we had the ability to buy a second battery.
Are these batteries 18650s?
I’m excited. Doubtful that I’ll get into the beta, but I’m hoping it’s not too expensive when it launches. Want to ditch the nest!
INstall was easy, but I have had middling success with UWB working. I think it has to do with my wife and my iOS installs, so I am trying a fresh install this weekend.
What’s the difference between U100 and U400
The U400 uses rechargeable battery, has UWB, Thread, Zigbee 3.0, Bluetooth and supports the upcoming Aliro plus the lock can be rekeyed.
