After years of using August Home Locks, I was hesitant to switch to the Aqara SmartLockU400. However, the installation process was surprisingly straightforward. The only minor adjustment needed was slightly removing about 1/16 of an inch to add the new latch in the door frame, which I easily managed with a flat screwdriver. The setup in the Apple Home app was seamless, and the integration with Apple HomeKit was flawless.
One of the standout features of this lock is its impressive battery life. From January 8th to February 9th, the battery remained at 83% despite having young children frequently using the fingerprint access. The built-in UWB technology is a game-changer, as it eliminates the need to remove my phone from my pocket to unlock the door. This has been a breath of fresh air compared to my previous August locks.
The fingerprint access is another highlight. It’s incredibly convenient, especially when I’m not home to let the kids in after school. They can simply use their fingerprint to get inside, eliminating the need for keys or PINs. This has made my life significantly easier and has added an extra layer of security.
While the lock is nearly perfect, I do wish there was an option for temporary user access based on fingerprints rather than relying solely on PINs. However, this is a minor quibble that doesn’t detract from the overall exceptional performance of the Aqara SmartLockU400. I wholeheartedly recommend this lock to anyone looking to upgrade their home security system.
