Hi everyone, I recently purchased an Aqara Smoke Detector (Zigbee) and have been trying to connect it to my Homey setup. While the process has been a bit challenging, I wanted to share my experience and some tips that might help others facing similar issues.
First, I tried using the Aqara app to add the device. However, it only recognized the Xiaomi Honeywell version, and even though it connected, it was registered as a generic Zigbee device. I then attempted the Xiaomi Home app, but that required the Xiaomi gateway, which I don’t have.
I also have an Aqara M2 hub, which I added to Homey via Matter. While the hub works, it doesn’t detect my smoke detector—only the other devices connected to it. This was a bit frustrating, but I kept trying different methods.
After some research, I discovered that using the Zigbee2MQTT plugin with Homey was a viable solution. By configuring Zigbee2MQTT, I was able to pair the smoke detector directly with Homey without needing the Aqara hub. This setup not only worked seamlessly but also provided detailed status updates and notifications within the Homey app.
For anyone else struggling with similar issues, I recommend exploring plugins like Zigbee2MQTT or looking into Matter integration options. These methods can often bypass the limitations of brand-specific apps and hubs.
I’d love to hear if others have found alternative solutions or have tips for integrating Aqara devices with Homey. Let’s keep the discussion going and help each other overcome these hurdles!
Cheers,
