It seems like the W100 is already supported in Zigbee2Mqtt, but the W500 is not. Even though I do see the point that Aqara is mainly interested in having their products running with their own hub and app, it would be great if they would endorse z2m/home assistant with their products as well.
@kaktus317 Thank you for sharing your thoughts! You’ve made a great observation—Aqara products, including the W500, are indeed designed for optimal integration with the Aqara Hub and the Aqara Home app, which allows users to access the full range of exclusive features and ensures reliable performance. Currently, Aqara hubs and the Aqara Home app do not officially support third-party Zigbee controllers like Zigbee2Mqtt, and devices from other brands aren’t supported in the Aqara ecosystem either.
Your suggestion to endorse Zigbee2Mqtt and Home Assistant compatibility is valuable and reflects a growing community interest in broader interoperability. While there’s no official support yet, continued feedback like yours helps highlight the demand for more open integrations. Let’s keep this discussion going—what specific features would you most like to see if z2m support were added? This could help shape future directions!
the “works with homeassistant” label is something Aqara should be focusing on getting.
@kaktus317 Thank you for raising this point! Many smart home enthusiasts share your perspective—having the official “Works with Home Assistant” label would signal Aqara’s commitment to open ecosystems and make integration with platforms like Home Assistant much more seamless. In fact, Aqara products that support HomeKit can already be connected to Home Assistant using the HomeKit Controller integration. This allows users to add compatible Aqara devices to Home Assistant and control them alongside other smart devices, though this method relies on the HomeKit protocol and may not unlock every feature found in the Aqara Home app.
Your feedback is important and helps highlight the growing demand for broader compatibility. Let’s keep the conversation going: which Aqara devices or features would you most like to see officially supported in Home Assistant? Your input can help drive future improvements and encourage more open integrations!
@Adam_CF That’s really exciting news, Adam_CF! It’s great to hear that you’ve achieved full control of the W500 in Zigbee2MQTT after the update. This kind of sharing is super valuable for our community as it expands the possibilities and knowledge about Aqara products. Your experience can help other users who might be interested in using the W500 with Zigbee2MQTT.
If you have any more details about the update process, or any other interesting findings during your usage, please don’t hesitate to share them with us. We’d love to learn more!
Thanks for the info, seems to be a big update. Z2M having a totally different GUI.
For me the device gets detected, listing a lot of stuff to configure - which it did not before - but it is still marked as unsupported. But this could be just me and bad pairing, because my network crashed the other day.
One more very important question though: How do you turn off the bloody AqaraBot here? This AI nonesense is very anyoing!
Yeah, I don’t like the GUI. I actually thought it was broken.
Perhaps try deleting and re-adding the stat?
Don’t know anything about the bot. Think it may be tagged in the topic?
In another (?) forum I saw someone actually stating “bot do not write in this post” - I don’t know if it helps. But those messages are just stupid.
My problem with re-adding (and I had this problem before the update, after deleting / adding a lot for getting the device to work): The device showed up after adding (unsupported), I delete the device, then I add again, it shows up very briefly, disappears on its own and then readding does not work anymore. Also it is still listed in the yaml. I delete it there, but readding still does not work anymore. I don’t think it’s a device issue though, I think it’s my Zigbee messed up (a little).
EDIT:
Setting up my network (again) from scratch. Pairing of the W500 without any problem, seems to work now.
Hi, how du you get an Zigbee connection? After reset I had Only the 4 signal blinking for connecting into Matter network.
You need to connect to Aqara app. I believe that should then give the option of Zigbee or Matter.
I don’t have an aqara hub. Only Home Assistant with Zigbe2Mqtt or Matter. But in Matter there is only the extrernal Thermostat avalable.
