Arm/Disarm using Wall Switch

First post:
Can the 3 channel light switch be used in 4 channel mode to control the alarm system.
Home, Away, Night, Off
I’m using Homekit, and I see the commands under the security tab.
Looking for hard buttons.
When using Siri to change the state of lights would this effect the light switch and cause the alarm systems state to change.

@rick12 Great questions—let’s break them down!

  1. Using a 3-Channel Light Switch for Alarm Modes (Home, Away, Night, Off):
Currently, Aqara Light Switches (including the 3-channel and 4-channel models) are primarily designed to control lighting and similar devices. They don’t natively function as dedicated alarm system controllers with a “fourth channel” for an Off state. However, you can get creative! By leveraging Aqara Home app automations (and to some extent, HomeKit scenes), you can assign each button (channel) to arm or disarm your Aqara Alert System—mapping them to Home, Away, and Night modes. The “Off” state is a bit tricky, as the Aqara Alert System includes “Home”, “Away”, and “Night” (with “24/7” always active), and only allows one of these to be armed at a time. Disarming is achieved by turning off the current mode, rather than selecting an explicit “Off” mode.
See more about Aqara Alert System Modes

  2. Hard Buttons for Security Modes:
While the switches are intended for light control, you can set up automations in the Aqara Home app so that pressing a switch button changes the Alert Mode. For example, pressing Button 1 could set “Home”, Button 2 for “Away”, and Button 3 for “Night”. This gives you that tactile, “hard button” experience for security mode switching.

  3. Siri & Light Switches Affecting Alarm Modes:
If you use Siri to control lights (e.g., “turn off living room lights”), this action only affects your lights—unless you’ve explicitly set up an automation that links a light state change to a security mode change. By default, changing the light switch state via Siri will not arm or disarm your alarm system.

Quick Tips:

  • Set up automations in Aqara Home app, not just HomeKit, for the best integration.
  • Only one security mode (Home/Away/Night) can be active at a time.
  • The switch can trigger alarm modes if configured, but won’t have a native “Off” channel.

Hope this helps clarify how you can creatively use your switches for smart home security! If anyone’s built a similar setup or has tips for integrating “Off” as a physical button, please share your experiences below.

Hello @rick12
If this is a switch H1 or H1 pro I think it is possible, you need to untie the keys from the relay, the keys after this will not be able to control the relay but Siri will be able to turn on and off the smart light (I emphasize Smart light but not stupid) because the relay will be closed and untied from the keys, you need to create automation for each key on the keys. You will have to choose only three of the four. This is if you need all three channels for light (L1, L2, L3)
If not, then the H2 switches will suit you better (there you can only use two loads) because there are 4 buttons in the two-key version and you can do the same (unlink the relay) and then you will have 4 keys for control.

Wasn’t able to get the Aqara alarm system working as planned with the switch.
I added Ring to the HOOBS box and the Aqara switch controls the ring alarm system perfectly
Can add details if anyone is interested

Why didn’t the switch work as planned?
Share your solution, it will be useful for users. :+1:t2:

Once I set up the guard mode the app worked correctly.
Adding the switch and enabling the relay locks, then setting up what i thought should be a simple automation, wasn’t the case.
The away state, when using the switch would not allow for the exit delay, whereas the app would. I tired multiple things but wasn’t satisfied.

I have a Hoobs box for certain devices…
I purchased a Ring alarm, set it up through the Ring app, downloaded the Hoobs plug in.
Programmed the Aqara switch - top button = Home, 2nd button = Away (the delay just worked), third button = disarm. Could not be happier.
The 4th button is all lights off and mutes every Sonos zone.
