After encountering connectivity issues with my Wyzecam V2 cameras when switching to an ASUS RT-AC86U router, I discovered that the problem was related to a recent firmware update. The cameras worked perfectly with my previous Actiontec T3200 router, but after the switch, I couldn’t access them outside my network.
I decided to investigate and found that others had experienced similar issues. After some research, I realized that downgrading the router’s firmware was a potential solution. Here’s how I resolved the issue:
-
Identify the Issue: The cameras were accessible within the local network but couldn’t connect remotely. This pointed to a routing or firewall configuration problem introduced by the firmware update.
-
Downgrade Firmware: I located an older, stable firmware version for the RT-AC86U and performed a clean install. This involved:
- Backing up current settings.
- Downloading the older firmware from ASUS’s support page.
- Using the router’s web interface to flash the new firmware.
-
Test Connectivity: After the downgrade, I tested the cameras’ remote access. They were now working as expected, both locally and remotely.
-
Monitor Updates: To prevent future issues, I now plan to test firmware updates in a controlled environment before applying them to my main network.
This experience highlighted the importance of keeping firmware up to date but also being cautious with updates that might introduce compatibility issues. If you’re experiencing similar problems, consider checking for firmware downgrade options or reaching out to the device manufacturer for support.
