Automatic Lights with Home Assistant + HomeKit

I started by purchasing a smart wall switch for my overhead light, as Aqara seemed to make the only Homekit compatible switch that didn’t require a neutral wire, and now I’ve gone down the rabbit hole, with 5 Aqara LED strips, smart buttons, temperature sensors, contact sensors, and an FP2.

I have all of my Aqara products linked directly to Home Assistant, and are then bridged to Homekit, and the response times are VERY nice, especially with the FP2 turning all of my lights on as soon as I walk in the room, and turning them off once I leave without me having to worry.

As well, the temperature sensors have come in very handy, as I got them right before leaving for a vacation, and my fridge started acting up (Getting suddenly warm or subzero randomly) before leaving, but I was able to install a temperature sensor and, thanks to them working down to -25˚C, I could monitor the temperature while I was away, which was super handy.

I have smart buttons in areas that I commonly use, like right beside my bed so I can turn lights on easily when I wake up, and I’ve connected one to a smart plug so I can turn my fan on and off without getting up as well.

Aqara products have been the highest quality smart home products ive purchased so far, and I love how they work so well with Home Assistant and Homekit.

Welcome Beckett! Such a beautiful setup you have there!

Didn’t know the Aqara temperature sensor can work in such cold conditions. I hope your fridge stayed cold so your food didn’t spoil.

I know! Aqara products are soooooo FAST at responding.

I also have the button beside my bed to control the lights so I don’t have to run across the room to turn lights off. Super convenient!
