Automating bedroom curtains with Curtain Driver E1 and solar power

Hello everyone,

I wanted to share how I use the Aqara Curtain Driver E1 together with the Hub E1 and Home Assistant to make my home more comfortable.

During summer, my bedrooms would often get uncomfortably hot in the afternoon sun. Closing the curtains by hand every day was easy to forget, and the rooms would heat up quickly.

That’s when I decided to automate it. My setup works like this:

  • The curtains close automatically when my solar panels produce more than a set threshold
  • The sun’s position and the indoor temperature are also checked, so it only runs when it really makes sense
  • Multiple Curtain Driver E1s work together to cover all bedroom windows at the same time

Since setting this up, the rooms stay much cooler, I use less air conditioning, and everything runs on clean solar power. It just works in the background and saves me hassle every day.

Thank you, Aqara, for making such flexible products that fit perfectly into smart home setups.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

You’re welcome! I can share the code in YAML as well if anyone’s interested.

That sounds like an excellent setup! Automating curtain control based on solar production, sun position, and room temperature is a very smart way to keep the bedrooms cooler without any manual effort. The Aqara Curtain Driver E1 working together across multiple windows makes the whole system even more efficient.

Smart curtain solutions really help when heat builds up during summer, and your approach shows how automation can reduce AC usage and keep the home comfortable using clean energy. At BlackoutCurtains, we also see many people moving toward automated and blackout curtain systems for better temperature control and energy savings.

Interesting and inspiring!
How to you check/use the sun’s plave in the automation?
