Automating Door Locks: A Smooth Experience

Hello everyone! I’ve been diving into the world of home automation lately, and I wanted to share my experience with setting up an automated door lock system. It’s been quite a journey, and I think others might find it helpful! So, the goal was to create a rule where the front door lock automatically engages after 30 seconds if the contact sensor detects the door is closed and the lock is currently unlocked. Sounds straightforward, right? Well, let me tell you, it wasn’t as simple as I thought. Initially, I set up the rule, but no matter what, the door would lock after 30 seconds regardless of whether it was open or closed. That was frustrating! I double-checked the logic, reviewed the sensor statuses, and even restarted the system. Nothing seemed to work. Then, I decided to break it down step by step. I realized that the issue might be with how the contact sensor was reporting its state. After some research and tweaking the rule’s conditions, I finally got it to work perfectly. Now, the door locks automatically only when it’s closed, and it’s a seamless process. This experience taught me the importance of thoroughly testing each component and not assuming everything works as expected out of the box. It also highlighted how powerful automation can be when everything is set up correctly. If anyone else is working on similar projects, I’d love to hear your tips or tricks! Happy automating everyone! :rocket:
