Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent success in automating my garage door using SmartThings. It’s been a journey, but I’m thrilled with the outcome!I’ve always wanted my garage door to open automatically when I approach my home. After some research, I decided to use my iPhone’s presence detection feature to trigger the automation. The idea was simple: when my phone detects I’m near, the garage door should open, and after a set time, it should close automatically.I set up the automation using SmartThings, linking my garage door opener to my iPhone’s location services. Initially, everything worked smoothly—the door opened as soon as I got close. But there was one issue: the door wouldn’t close after the preset 4-minute timer. It was frustrating because I had to manually close it every time.I reached out to the community for help, and the support I received was amazing. Someone suggested checking the timer settings and ensuring the garage door device was correctly configured. After tweaking the settings and testing a few times, the automation started working perfectly! Now, my garage door opens when I’m nearby and closes automatically after 4 minutes. It’s such a convenient feature, especially when I’m carrying groceries or other items. I’m so grateful to the community for their guidance and encouragement throughout this process. This experience has taught me the importance of persistence and the value of a supportive community. If anyone else is working on a similar project, don’t hesitate to ask for help—chances are, someone has been through it and can offer advice!Happy automating everyone! ![]()
