Hello everyone! I hope you’re all having a great day. I’ve been exploring ways to streamline my home automation setup, particularly focusing on my outdoor lighting during the holiday season. Let me share my journey and solution with you all.Back in my previous system, I had the ability to switch between Normal Mode and Holiday Mode. During Holiday Mode, my outdoor lights would automatically turn off when my holiday lights went on at midnight, and revert back to normal outdoor lighting once the holiday lights turned off. This behavior was scheduled to occur only when my system was in Holiday Mode.I wanted to replicate this functionality with Hubitat, but with a twist. My Normal Mode runs from January 2nd to November 15th, while Holiday Mode is active from November 16th to January 1st at midnight. The goal was to automate this transition seamlessly without manual intervention. After some research and experimentation, I found that Hubitat’s Time Trigger and Scene Switcher capabilities made this possible. Here’s how I set it up:1. Scheduled Scenes: I created two scenes—one for Normal Mode and one for Holiday Mode. Each scene controls the outdoor lights and holiday lights accordingly. 2. Automatic Transition: Using Hubitat’s Time Trigger, I programmed the system to switch to Holiday Mode on November 16th at 00:00 and revert to Normal Mode on January 2nd at 00:00.3. Lighting Automation: During Holiday Mode, the outdoor lights are disabled when the holiday lights turn on. At midnight, the holiday lights turn off, and the outdoor lights reactivate. The benefits of this setup are immense. I can now set up all my Christmas lights on the first weekend of November, and they’ll start running automatically from November 16th until January 2nd. No more manual switching or worrying about missed schedules! If anyone has tips or suggestions to improve this setup, I’d love to hear them. Let’s continue to explore and share innovative ways to enhance our smart home experiences together!Happy automating! ![]()
