Automating My Airwick Freshmatic Max: A Fun DIY Project

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a fun DIY project I recently completed with my Airwick Freshmatic Max air freshener. I’ve always been a bit annoyed by how it sprays every 20 minutes, regardless of whether anyone’s home or not. Plus, I wanted to integrate it into my smart home setup for more control and notifications when the cartridge runs out. :herb:The Goal: I wanted the air freshener to spray only when there was movement in the hallway and to notify me when the cartridge was low. Plus, I wanted it to announce the remaining capacity through my smart speaker. Sounds simple, but it was a fun challenge! What I Used: - An HM-LC-Sw4-WM switch (potential-free contact) - A motion sensor (HM-Sec-MDIR) - A tablet with Home24 Media Player for voice announcements - Some basic wiring and soldering tools The Setup: 1. Hardware: I opened the air freshener and added a contact point to control the motor. I connected this to the HM-LC-Sw4-WM switch. 2. Software: I used CUxD to create a timer and script that activates the air freshener based on motion and tracks the cartridge level. The Results: It works perfectly! Now, the air freshener only sprays when there’s movement, and I get a notification when it’s time to change the cartridge. Plus, the voice announcements are super handy. Tips for Others: - If you’re planning something similar, make sure to test the motor connections thoroughly. - Use motion sensors to add an extra layer of control. - Don’t hesitate to get creative with CUxD scripting—it’s powerful! This project was a great way to customize my smart home and make everyday tasks a bit more seamless. I hope this inspires someone to try their own DIY smart home project! :rocket:
