Hi everyone, I’m diving into the world of smart home automation and I’m currently working on automating my half-bath. The goal is to have the lights and fan turn on/off automatically when the door opens or closes, or when motion is detected. I’m trying to figure out the best setup for this and I’d love to hear your recommendations!
I’m considering using either an open/close door sensor or a motion sensor, or maybe a combination of both. I’m not sure if using both would be redundant or if it would provide a smoother experience. If anyone has experience with this kind of setup, I’d appreciate your insights!
Here’s what I’m thinking: If I use a door sensor, it should trigger the lights and fan when the door opens and turn them off when it closes. But what if the door is left open? Would a motion sensor be a good backup to ensure the lights stay on when someone is in the room? Or would that complicate things?
I’m also curious about the reliability of these sensors. Have you found one brand or type that works better than others in terms of consistency and ease of setup? Any tips or tricks for ensuring a seamless integration with my smart home system would be greatly appreciated!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences. Let’s make this half-bath as smart as the rest of my home! ![]()
