Automating Smart Home Notifications: A User's Experience

I’ve been diving into the world of home automation with openHAB and it’s been a fascinating journey! I’ve successfully set up some rules to control my thermostats, which automatically adjust the temperature at specific times. To ensure these rules are working as intended, I added a push notification feature to my iPhone. This works perfectly in most cases, but there’s one exception that’s been puzzling me—my 10 PM rule doesn’t send a notification.

After some digging, I discovered that the my.openHAB service disconnects and reconnects every 4 hours, and this happens exactly at 10 PM. It seems like this brief disconnection is causing the notification to fail. As a workaround, I adjusted the rule to trigger at 9:45 PM, and now the notification works seamlessly.

While this solution works for me, I wonder if there’s a way to implement a queue system to prevent lost messages in more critical scenarios. I’d love to hear if others have encountered similar issues or have found more robust solutions!

On a lighter note, I’ve also been exploring the Govee ecosystem and their range of smart lighting options. The Highlight feature on their bulbs is a game-changer for creating ambiance, and I’m excited to see more innovative features in the future. If you’re into DIY projects, I’d recommend checking out some of the creative setups shared by the community—it’s truly inspiring!

Overall, the journey of setting up and fine-tuning my smart home has been both challenging and rewarding. It’s amazing how technology can enhance our daily lives when customized just right. Happy automating everyone! :rocket:
