Automating Smart Lighting: My Journey to Seamless Nighttime Activation

I recently embarked on a project to automate my home lighting using a Wyze motion sensor and a TP-Link Kasa Wi-Fi smart plug. The goal was straightforward: turn on a light when someone enters a darkened room at night. While the initial setup with IFTTT was smooth, I encountered a challenge in configuring the system to activate only during nighttime hours. :crescent_moon:

After some research, I discovered that integrating a Wyze smart bulb directly into the setup simplified the process significantly. The Wyze app allowed me to create a rule that combines motion detection with a dusk-to-dawn schedule, eliminating the need for complex IFTTT workflows. This adjustment not only streamlined my setup but also made the system more reliable. :bulb:

One tip I’d like to share is experimenting with different motion sensor placements to avoid false triggers, especially from pets. Additionally, setting a gradual brightness transition made the experience much more pleasant. If anyone has further questions or wants to share their own automation tips, I’d love to hear them! Thanks to this community for all the helpful insights!
