Back to School Tip: Using Light Timers for Anxiety Relief

As the new school year begins, I wanted to share a tip that has really helped my family stay on track and reduce anxiety. My oldest child has always been a bit anxious about waking up on time or feeling rushed in the mornings. To help ease his worries, I set up a series of light timers that provide gentle reminders throughout the morning routine.

Here’s how it works:

  • First Light: A small light under his bed turns on at 6:30 AM. This signals that it’s not too early to wake up but still allows him some time to ease into the day.
  • Second Light: Above his bed, a brighter light comes on at 7:00 AM. This lets him know it’s time to start waking up and, if he wants, he can wake up his younger sister.
  • Third Light: In the hallway, a light turns on at 7:30 AM. This is our cue to start getting ready for the day.
  • Fourth Light: The kitchen light turns on at 8:00 AM, reminding us to grab breakfast and lunches.
  • Final Light: The hallway light changes color at 8:30 AM, signaling it’s time to leave the house.

This system has been a lifesaver for us. It provides a sense of security and routine, knowing that we won’t be late or forget anything important. The lights act as gentle reminders, allowing us to move through the morning without feeling rushed.

I’d love to hear how others use timers or smart home features to help with back-to-school routines! Do you have any cool tips or tricks to share?
