I’ve recently expanded my smart home setup with a mix of Zigbee devices from various brands, and I’ve encountered an interesting challenge that I thought I’d share with the community.
For the past few months, I’ve been using the default Zigbee channel 11 for my Aqara and IKEA sensors, and everything has been running smoothly. However, when I decided to add some Konke motion sensors, I discovered that they operate on different channels—15, 20, and 25. Initially, I switched my Zigbee2mqtt gateway to channel 25 to pair the Konke sensors, and that worked like a charm. But here’s where things got tricky: after switching, I found that my existing Aqara sensors were no longer being detected, and I couldn’t pair any new ones either.
This led me to wonder—how can I effectively manage multiple Zigbee channels without causing interference or connectivity issues? I’ve heard that having devices on different channels can sometimes lead to conflicts, but I’m not entirely sure how to mitigate that. Should I consider purchasing a second gateway to handle the different channels, or is there a smarter way to configure my existing setup?
I’ve done a bit of research and found that some users have successfully used channel 11 for most devices and channel 25 for others, but it requires careful setup and possibly some trial and error. I’m also curious if there are any best practices for channel management in a mixed-brand environment.
I’d love to hear from anyone who has experience with this. Have you successfully integrated devices from multiple Zigbee channels? What strategies did you use to ensure smooth operation? Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,
Matyas
