I have the door and window sensor that says that battery life is 2 years. I belive this really depends on how frequent the sensor works. Can somebody tell me their experience regarding real life battery life?

The battery life of course depends on the frequency of use of the sensor, if you do not use it often (it rarely sends data to the hub) the battery will last a long time. If the sensor is not used, it goes into sleep mode and practically does not use the charge. My sensor has been working for two years.
