Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience with using a Kobo Clara HD e-reader as a Home Assistant display. It’s been a fun project, and I’m really impressed with how HADashboard made the setup so straightforward. Within a couple of hours, I had a custom skin tailored for the e-ink display showing the time, temperatures, and some basic controls.
However, I’ve noticed that the battery life isn’t as long as I hoped—only about 24 hours. I suspect the main culprit is screen updates, so I’ve started experimenting with reducing their frequency. For instance, I’ve lowered the temperature display precision to whole degrees and added filtering in Home Assistant to minimize noise. It’s early days, but I’m hopeful these tweaks will help.
If anyone has tips or tricks for optimizing power consumption on e-readers used for Home Assistant, I’d love to hear them! Maybe there’s something I’m missing about the Kobo browser’s efficiency or alternative UI solutions. Let’s brainstorm together! ![]()
