Battery Life Solutions for Smart Locks

I recently upgraded my home security system with a new smart lock, and I must say, the convenience it offers is unparalleled. However, I’ve encountered a minor hiccup that I’d like to address—battery life. After installing the Schlage BE469, I noticed that the battery consumption was significantly higher than expected. Over the past three months, I went through 16 batteries, which is quite concerning. I tried placing a Z-Wave repeater nearby, as suggested by some forums, but it didn’t make a noticeable difference. The most frustrating part was when my vacation renters arrived, and the lock’s batteries were dead just 10 days after installation. Luckily, they were still inside, so no one was locked out, but it was a close call.

I’ve heard great things about Hubitat for managing smart home devices, so I’m curious if there are alternative locks that integrate well with it and have better battery efficiency. The ability to add or remove codes through the Lock Manager would be a nice bonus, but at this point, I’d settle for a lock that simply lasts longer on a single battery charge. If anyone has recommendations or tips on improving battery life with their current setup, I’d be more than grateful to hear them. Let’s keep the conversation positive and focused on finding solutions!

On a lighter note, I’ve been experimenting with integrating my smart lights and cameras into a unified system. It’s been a learning curve, but seeing everything work seamlessly is incredibly rewarding. I’d love to hear about others’ experiences with system integrations and any tricks they’ve picked up along the way. Happy automating everyone!
