Best Methods for Detecting Room Presence

Have you ever wondered about the best way to detect when someone is in a room? I’ve been experimenting with different approaches to automate my home, especially focusing on presence detection without relying solely on motion sensors. Motion detection can be unreliable if someone is stationary, like reading a book, but I’ve also found that systems based on BLE beacons aren’t always perfect either—especially if you leave your phone in one room and move to another.

I’ve tried a few different solutions. One approach I’ve been exploring is using smart plugs combined with occupancy sensors. The idea is that if a device like a lamp or TV is turned on, it indicates someone is present. This has worked surprisingly well in my living room, where the lights automatically adjust based on activity.

Another method I’ve heard about involves using air quality sensors. If the CO2 levels rise, it suggests someone is in the room. While I haven’t implemented this yet, it seems like a promising alternative.

I’d love to hear from others who’ve tackled this challenge. What systems have worked well for you? Are there any cost-effective sensors or setups you’d recommend? Let’s share tips and tricks to make our homes smarter and more responsive! :rocket::bulb:
